Excel FunctionsExcel TIME Function

Excel Time Function

Description

Used to return valid time based on Hours, Minutes, and second provided as input separately. A very handy function, when your Excel model requires dynamic input as valid time.

Remember, TIME function is different from TIMEVALUE function in a way that has it requires separate input for Hours, Minutes, and Second, whereas, in TIMEVALUE, there shall be only a single time as text input.

=TIME(hour,minute,second)

The TIME function syntax has the following arguments:

  • Hour Required.

Hours can be represented by numbers from 0 to 32767, however, if a given figure is greater than 24, Excel will divide it by 24, and treat the reminder as output hour. For example, the function TIME(25,0,0) will result into “01:00 AM”.

  • Minute Required.

Minutes can be represented by numbers from 0 to 32767, however, if a given figure is greater than 59, Excel will divide it into Hours and Minutes, for example, the function TIME(0,650,0) will result in (650/5=> 11.0169) “11:01 AM”.

  • Second Required.

Similarly,  Seconds can be represented by numbers from 0 to 32767, however, if a given figure is greater than 59, Excel will first divide it into Minutes and Seconds, and if Minutes exceeds 59, it converts exceeding numbers into Hours, for example, the function TIME(0,0,7500) will result into “02:05:00 AM”.
